How to upgrade Pardus 2007 to Pardus 2008

pardus-2007-to-2008-cd.run is a console script to upgrade Pardus 2007 installed machines to Pardus 2008.

To run the script, you have to know your root password. Also you need an internet connection and a mounted 2008 Pardus CD.

The script has to be run two times for upgrading. In the first run it installs kernel and drivers from the CD. After the first run, you need to reboot the machine.

After the reboot, you need to run the script again. In this step, the real upgrade process begins.

You can run the script by double clicking pardus-2007-to-2008-cd.run

As stated above you should have a Pardus 2008 CD on your drive and an internet connection and the cd should be mounted before you run this script. When i ran the script for the first time, all went ok except that it warned about (hd1,0) couldn't be recognized, it happened because i have lines including (hd1,0) in my grub.conf under /boot/grub; so i added


(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb --> this line

to my device.map under /boot/grub. In the first run it updates kernel and drivers, and when you reboot and run for the second time, it downloads and installs latest packages from Pardus 2008 repository.

Finally i updated from Pardus 2007.3 to Pardus 2008.1 without any conflicts, so try it yourself and have fun :)

Installation:

First you need to install Fatrat's runtime dependencies -gloox, curl and libtorrent. Finally install Fatrat;

you can install packages on Pardus by simply entering

sudo pisi it package_name
from the command line.
